AustCham Mongolia attended the “Roundtable 2020” Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Forum
AustCham Mongolia actively participated and proudly represented its members at the “Roundtable 2020” Foreign Trade and Foreign Investment Forum held at the Government House on 30th of September 2020.
The forum was organized by the Government Standing Committee on Foreign Investment and Trade. The goal of the Roundtable discussion was to discuss with the private sector’s representatives and foreign investors about the challenges of doing business in Mongolia, identify priorities to improve the investment environment in Mongolia, improve the competitiveness of Mongolia as the investor destination, and formulate potential areas of improvement in legislation to support business growth.
The forum featured four main topics “Investment Environment”, “Foreign Trade Policy of Mongolia”, “Extractive Industry Environment” and “Business Environment”.
AustCham Mongolia’s Board of Directors, Julien Lawrence and Chris Melville attended the forum as a panelist and raised interesting issues and points such as marketing campaigns aimed at creating a positive image of Mongolia as a favorable nation for foreign investment or changing legal requirements for establishing a new business or closing down businesses. These remarks were highlighted by the MPs who acted as the forum moderators and vowed to hold more forums or meetings in the future to discuss these issues in detail.
Speaker of the Parliament H.E Mr. Zandanshatar highlighted that the Mongolian Parliament intends on supporting foreign trade, attracting foreign investment and improving its efficiency, and focusing on defining government policy and improving the legal environment, despite the challenges.
AustCham Mongolia welcomes this firm stand on creating a favorable environment for FDI from the Mongolian Government and looking forward to working with the Standing Committee to further this initiative.
